Dome skylights are a great way to create uniform, natural illumination for your home. Dome skylights do not need regular maintenance or cleaning, as their exposed surface is usually at such a position and angle that any spell of rain is enough to clean the exterior effectively. Generally all that is required for maintenance of the skylight on the roof is to periodically remove any leaves that may build up around the skylight roof frame.
Inside the home, to keep the skylight functioning effectively, the prismatic diffuser which sits at the ceiling, should be removed on a regular basis. This will provide you with adequate light for a prolonged period of time.
Cleaning the diffuser at the ceiling is a simple process and can be easily done by the home owner. Remove the diffuser and wash in warm soapy water. Gently pat dry and then replace the diffuser. Never use materials such as window cleaners, alcohol or other solvents to clean your diffuser as their chemical components can damage the diffuser.
